There is a great little wine shop/beer shop/beer bar in Downtown Crown, Gaithersburg, close to where I live. Every Friday or Saturday, they invite a brewery / distributor representative to take over their taps to give a beer tasting. Several months ago, it was Old Dominion Brewery, relocated to Dover, Delaware. They had 4 beers, two of which I quickly forgot. I definitely wasn’t expecting to like this “Cherry Blossom Lager”. The label is too attractive, and it seems too closely tied to our local Cherry Blossom Festival. I was suspecting beer exploitation, where a crappy beer is linked to a holiday, such as Halloween, and made of squash or zucchini or pumpkin?!?! But I really liked it!
It is brewed with 300 lbs of Michigan Cherries. The color is a deep red/hay color, slighly cloudy like any Belgian, and although it isn’t a Belgian beer, it has a great malt, cherry, estery (bannana’ish) taste. It is nicely light in taste, and the cherry taste isn’t cloying.
